In Gwinnett County, Georgia, a local teacher has found an innovative way to support students with special needs following changes to state graduation requirements. Coach Randy Black, a special education teacher at North Gwinnett High School, launched the Java Dawg Café, where students gain valuable job training by running the coffee shop.

Coach Black started the café in 2007 when vocational diplomas were no longer an option. Since then, the Java Dawg Café has provided students with essential skills and has become a beloved community fixture. Profits from the café fund scholarships, with $8,000 awarded this year alone. Coach Black, who will retire this year, leaves a lasting legacy of empowerment and opportunity for his students.
